Today was Domestic Workers’ Sunday at the Nicosia International Church. We had a great time honoring women from India, Sri Lanka, Philippines, Ghana, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Cameroon, and Armenia. One shared a testimony of coming to Christ in Cyprus from a Buddhist background. Now both her sister and brother have also come to faith.
At the end we gave them flowers and ‘commissioned’ them to go into the homes where they work as ambassadors of Christ.
It was a fun service with lots of energy. But now the work comes. There’s a need for discipleship among the various nationalities represented, but that takes time. Hopefully my upcoming sabbatical will free me to give the attention this needs.

This is one of the coolest church happenings I’ve heard of in a long time!

And check out the link to the church that ’started it all’ – http://thomasscarborough.blogspot.com/2008/03/domestic-workers-service.html
This is another amazing example of globalization. The pastor of this church is in Cape Town, South Africa. We met at Fuller Seminary in Pasadena, CA. And we’ve continued to ‘talk’ via email ever since.
